What is NLP? How can you use it to change your life, now!
Neuro Linguistic Programming

What is it?

Symbolic There are twenty-six letters in the English alphabet. Everything we read is just a re-arrangement of the letters over and over again. All those articles and books you have ever read are just those same old 26 letters in a different combination. The mind codes experience symbolically. However, it uses more that just 26 symbols. And therefore, the combinations available are vastly more than all the books ever written or that are likely to be ever written. NLP assists people in re-arranging these symbolic codes (which are largely unconscious) in useful and sometimes dramatic ways to provide desired outcomes. The results can be spectacular and immediate.

Neurology The human brain contains from 10 to 100 billion neurons, and each has hundreds of connections with neighbouring neurons. The combinations are tremendous. It is probably fair to say that you have no idea of the range of feelings your neurology can provide you. And the best thing is YOU are in control of it, whether you know it or not.

Keyboard Computer people reading this will appreciate that a computer program consists of sub-routines. It is the efficient use of discrete sub programs that culminate in the success of an overall program. Just like a large scale computer program can have minor software bugs, the mind can sometimes learn programs which are un-resourceful. Depending upon individual experience, some sub-routines or behaviours will be missing altogether. Like the program of being at ease in the company of strangers…namely, trust or shyness for example. These programs themselves are made up of smaller and simpler programs. The NLP practitioner will assist in gathering these smaller resources in a new way to bring about the required programs. The wonderful thing is that the mind knows how to do this as that's its primary function: to learn new things.

Who made NLP?

Grinder and Bandler The set of “models” and techniques explicitly defined in NLP are primarily attributed to the work of John Grinder and Richard Bandler. John and Richard explicitly coded techniques in which change can be consistently brought about. Both John and Richard started modelling experts in the fields of therapy and communication. These people demonstrated exceptional abilities and skill in their field. John and Richard isolated the key elements of the experts' excellent behaviour; what specifically were these experts doing differently that made them exceptional at what they did? What are the essential steps in the process that brings about the outcome? Roughly speaking, this is NLP Modelling which leads to the underlying philosophy of NLP: “What is the smallest amount of work that needs to be done to bring about the biggest change?” What's the difference that makes the difference?

How can it be used?

NLP has proved to be exceptionally beneficial in personal development, executive coaching, sports coaching, clinical therapy, negotiations, business consulting and management. In fact, just about anywhere human beings have effect; NLP can be used to improve skills, performance and abilities.
